The Other Place Guestbook

  1. In regards to the comment about the music:

All the years I have been coming to Fowey The Other Place has played a full and enjoyable range of genres that would appeal to many different music tastes. Even if it were the case that I did not personally like the music being played at that specific time I would not write a scalding remark on a company’s publicity website! The sadist part about this is that I would imagine if Mr Proctor had voiced his concerns to the staff themselves they would have accommodated his request forthwith. Voicing a point of view is one thing being outwardly rude is quite another!! I recently ate in your restaurant and I have to say that the food and atmosphere were perfect, thank you all for a very enjoyable time!

  2. thank you James for your commets

I am unable to specify the volume of the music or the artist playing, I would however like to clarify some points. The speakers you refer to are inside the building and not under the canopy; rock music may not be your preferance but is certainly not down market; Fowey is full of restaurants and pubs playing music which on occasion may be too loud or the wrong genre for an individual; the music we play ranges from Vivaldi to Led Zepplin, from Mr Scruff to The Beatles; as a resident of Fowey for over 30 years I am acutely aware of what is anti-social and of how to prevent it; the attitude of the current bunch of people running it is that of upmost professionalism; we have enjoyed a very succesful season with or without music. I am sorry that the music was too loud for you and will monitor the situation in the future.

  3. I was hoping to sample the take away fish and chips on a visit to Fowey three weeks ago. Sadly the entrance to the downstairs restaurant was a mass of anti-social noise coming from a set of downward facing speakers in the canopy over the tables and chairs on the street thresthold. The music was wrecking the peace of Fowey for me and a lot of other people who don't associate this town with the kind if din that comes from an amusement arcade.

The whole atmosphere of the place was enough to drive my wife and I away to find our meal somewhere else.

The thinking behind attracting the attention of potential customers by throwing rock music at them in the street rather proves that your restaurant is aiming down market.. Pity as it doesn't have to do that it's all down to the attitude of the owner or the behaviour of the current bunch of people managing it.

  4. Am heading to Fowey for early summer break in a week or so - can't wait to feed on fresh fish in The Other Place. See soon!

  5. we have just had another great holiday in Fowey (havent been for 4 years) so it was great to know that The Other Place is even better than we remembered - great food, service and atmosphere

    Highly recommended !

  6. popped in for a quick take-away. excellent fish & chips. the portion was ample. friendly service and lively place. thank you.

  7. i took my five children to fowey from st ives last week and ate in the restaurant and had the most extroardinary meal. The waiters where great and the cooks where magnificent. My children cant wait to go back. thanks the other place.

  8. Hi. After all the excitment of celebrity parties it's back to life as normal! We are well into the autumn season now even though the sun is still shining, our seasonal menu is updated so you can have a browse at your leisure on our menu page, we have started to have a think about our Christmas menu which I will post soon as it is finalised, you can book now for Christmas, it'll be here quicker than you think!!

  9. Dawn French and Lenny Henry were in The Other Place last night. Must be in Fowey for the upcoming Oasis gig I guess. Thouroughly enjoyed their evening in the restaurant by all accounts!

  10. Ohmigod! Oasis at Eden? Hope they like fish and chips!

  11. Took the family to the Other Place a few weeks back, for ice cream, fish and chips and dinner! Loved the Sea Bass, mmmm... and kids are well catered for too. Restaurant staff are very charming. Doing something right, keep it up!!

  12. Hi! Took the family for fish & chips in your downstairs takeaway at the weekend, and they were among the best I've eaten (and I've eaten a few!). Even the kids loved the cod in its crispy batter, and they normally run a mile if I offer fish to them. So thank you! We'll be back!

  13. Fantastic weather in Fowey. Found this amazing place to eat overlooking the harbour. Just loved the moules and great ambience. As good as anywhere in the world. This is the place to be on a day like today couldn't ask for more. People dont know what they're missing. Great little find, I will come again.

  14. it sounds like your sister has remarkably good taste, Mr Other Place!

  15. Rumour has it that Kate Winslet was in town on Friday. I did not see her, did anyone else?

  16. Beautiful day today!! Just a quick lifeboat week update: There will be "songs of praise" on the town quay at 6 followed by the infamous Mevagissey Male Voice Choir in the church at 7. Sounds like the perfect evening for strolling round with a bag of freshly cooked fish and chips!!

  17. After the disappointment of the cancellation of "Life Boat Day", "Life Boat Week" is upon us with a vengence!! We have just witnessed a 2 man rescue demonstration involving the Royal Navy search & rescue helicopter (a Sea King?) & our very own Life Boat, all very exciting!! Photographs for those interested have been added to our slideshow. My sister requested a closeup of a Life Boat man in full uniform but unfortunately they were too busy jumping in & out of the water! There's no accounting for taste!!

  18. Bucks Fizz and Dollar? All we need now are Martin Fry and Tony Hadley for an eighties- tastic reunion!

  19. I thought so! I was eating here on Sunday night, and I thought I saw Cheryl Baker. No one else in my party recognised her (they are all much younger than me), so I am glad it was her. Did not see the other one though. Great food, and excellent service as always.

  20. Ohmigod! Just been sitting in the other place, and who should walk by? Last time I saw her in Fowey is when she was with Bucks Fizz and performing at Carlyon Bay. There are rumours of sightings of Thereza Bazar as well. A day for people watching outside the other place today I think!

  21. after the torrential downpours it is finally trying to get sunny. thankyou to those who have left comments especially Robert Scott, i'll certainly be looking out for that new Ford range (!?)

  22. fowey is simply great i live in a hamlet called calla near bisley just outside tenby where fish is good but by jove the meal we had with you was simply sensational i am a designer with ford look out for the new mondial/thypoon range

  23. I took my girlfriend to the other place for a special birthday, we had a fantabulous feast and the wine was outstanding. We lost hours in there! The service was second to none and the ambiance simply perfect. Spirits were high at the end of the night, when we awoke she was my fiancée. Thanks a billion ‘the other place’.

  24. It has been a gloriously sunny day for us at the other end of the country but I wouldn't have minded swapping that for a day in Fowey, wave dodging and letting the wind push us up the hills - love it! And later, filling up on delicious food in a great restauarant! We will be visiting again very soon - can't wait!

  25. have a lovely time every visit. great service. great music. and finally, food to die for! you'll be seeing me again!

  26. ps i have left a photo of the rough seas on our slide show, it does not quite depict the roughness of the sea but it is blowin a hooly out there!

  27. The weather is truely bad, so bad in fact that Life Boat day was cancelled, none the less we've got a busy weekend lined up. We have just updated our seasonal menu for july which you can peruse on our menus page. Don't let the weather put you off, there's nothing that a good brolley and a sturdy pair of shoes can't cure

  28. Streuth mate its fierce weather here - good job I tied my kangaroo down! Managed to duck into Other Place opposite Albert Quay and the lovely sheilas in there put a smile on my face!

  29. I have just sat outside The Other Place and had a coffee and an ice cream. After this mornings deluge, it is lovely to be in the sun again. It really is a great place for people watching....I think I saw Bruce Foxton!

  30. Well its all gone a bit Pete Tong really. The heavens opened this afternoon, and despite being quite warm, tis a wet old day by now! Still pretty though.

  31. No - I'm in equally sunny but less lovely London. Wish I was there! Looking forward to summer visit...

  35. A very pleasant and civilised restaurant. What comes on the plate is invariably good and the service quick and cheerful. It's a long journey from the South East but dinner at the Other Place is one of the events making the visit to Fowey worth while... while....

  36. Beautiful sunny day in Fowey today, the best of days. Fancy fish and chips for lunch? I do!

  37. The 'Other Placers' are an excellent bunch. Always smiling and laughing, and nothing is too much trouble - a rare quality these days. Food is always of the highest standard, and if you are lucky enough to get a window seat, you will have a night to remember.

  38. I've been to The Other Place on numerous occassions and I'm always amazed at how one restaurant can satisfy such a diverse range of clientele. Big parties, families with kids in tow, yachtsman fresh of the boat looking for a tasty takeaway or a couple enjoying a romantic meal taking in the view - they're all there! Honestly, fantastic food, fine wine, top tunes and the smoothest service- what more could you ask for!

  39. Wonderful food and friendly service. A true taste of Cornwall at reasonable price. Can't wait to visit again.
